Young performers to take the spotlight at CLIA Awards

March 1, 2023 – More than 40 young Australian performers will take to the stage at this year’s Cruise Industry Awards in recognition of the arts and entertainment sector’s long-standing collaboration with cruising.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has partnered with Brent Street, Australia’s leading performing arts training centre, to create a spectacular dance production showcasing the talents of up-and-coming performers.

CLIA’s 20th Cruise Industry Awards will be announced at a gala event at Luna Park Sydney on 11 March, with more than 70 finalists from across Australia and New Zealand in the running to win. The event will be the industry’s biggest celebration in more than three years and will highlight the enormous determination and resilience shown by Australasia’s travel agent community over recent years.

CLIA Managing Director Australasia Joel Katz said Brent Street had been nurturing talent in the performing arts sector for decades and would create a fitting highlight for the award celebrations.

“The cruise industry is a major employer of dancers, singers, musicians and other performers,” Mr Katz said. “We want to help showcase the amazing talents of our young entertainers and the Brent Street team have responded with a spectacular show for our guests.”

Brent Street Managing and Creative Director Lucas Newland said: “Brent Street has been training the majority of working Australian performers for the past three decades. With our alumni featuring on almost every cruise line brand around the world, we are so happy to see the cruise industry back up and running and once again providing a major source of employment for our graduates,” he said.

“Brent Street is world-renowned for its iconic commercial jazz training and cutting-edge style, which will be featured in the opening number of the evening. We cannot wait to be on stage and to entertain the best of the best in the cruise industry.”

Brent Street’s CLIA Awards performances have been directed by Lucas Newland (owner of Brent Street), choregraphed by Cassandra Bartho (Australia’s freshest choreographic powerhouse) and also feature some of Brent Street’s professional alumni as well as other industry professionals in an all-singing and dancing spectacular.

CLIA’s 20th Cruise Industry Awards for Australasia will be hosted by entertainer Tim Campbell and is supported by Headline Sponsor Visit Qatar.
