The two-week webinar program is returning after its debut last year and will offer insight into some of the world's great ports and cruise destinations.

Australians could soon cruise overseas but not at home

Australians could soon be in the absurd position of being able to fly overseas to go cruising but still be unable to sail from their own doorstep, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today warned. CLIA Managing Director Australasia Joel Katz said today's announcement on the opening of international travel was welcome news for many parts of the Australian travel industry, but a lack of government action on cruising meant the jobs of more than 18,000 Australians were still in doubt.

Cruise industry calls for talks to end inaction

The cruise industry has called for urgent talks with Australian governments to break the cycle of inaction over the industry's future, warning Australia is being left behind as other countries rebuild their cruising and tourism economies. Responding to today's extension of Australia's cruise suspension, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) said Australia had become the only major cruise destination in the world where governments had made no progress on plans for revival, and that discussions were needed to finalise a pathway forward, initially for cruises carrying Australians-only within Australia.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has outlined a four-phase pathway for a careful resumption of cruising in Australia, designed to align with government plans to revive tourism and reopen borders as the country transitions its Covid-19 response. The cruise pathway has been developed in response to the four-phase National Plan agreed to by Australian governments, which sets out key stages of reopening and the national vaccination targets that trigger them.

Cruise industry seeks Prime Minister's support

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has written to Prime Minister Scott Morrison seeking a breakthrough in discussions over the industry's future ahead of next month's review of Australia's cruise suspension. CLIA Managing Director Joel Katz said the industry had renewed its call for cruising to be included in Australia's four-phase plan for reopening and was seeking further discussions on a framework for resumption before the current suspension ends on September 17.

New Zealand's travel revival needs plans for cruising

Plans for a phased reopening of New Zealand's borders will be a positive step forward for the tourism sector, but provisions for a careful resumption of local cruising should be included to help revive New Zealand jobs and businesses, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) said today. Responding to the New Zealand Government's announcement on future Covid-19 measures and a phased opening of borders, CLIA Managing Director Australasia Joel Katz said New Zealand would need an agreed framework to support tightly managed local cruise operations, beginning initially within a domestic or trans-Tasman bubble.

CLIA campaign to seek MP meetings

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Australasia has launched the next phase of its Ready, Set, Sail campaign, aimed at seeking meetings between Australian politicians and the people most affected by the ongoing cruise suspension. CLIA is urging travel agent members, cruise suppliers and other industry stakeholders to meet personally with their local Members of Parliament, to help highlight the enormous human cost of the suspension and reinforce efforts to achieve a pathway to resumption.

Ready, Set, Sail campaign reaches 40,000 mark

Australian politicians have been sent an overwhelming message of support for a resumption of cruising, with 40,000 emails sent to state and federal MPs as part of the Ready, Set, Sail campaign launched last month by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Over the past month the initiative has targeted travel agents, industry stakeholders and other members of Australia's extensive cruise community, urging them to help advocate for cruising's revival.

Cruise industry calls for end to inaction and a clear plan for the future

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has expressed concern at the lack of progress on a cruise resumption in Australia and today called on the Federal Government to take real steps towards establishing a plan for future cruise operations. CLIA Managing Director Australasia Joel Katz said the extension of Australia's cruise suspension today was not unexpected, but warned the government's lack of a plan for the future was causing lasting damage to the economy and putting 18,000 Australian jobs in doubt.
