CLIA welcomes European Maritime Safety Agency guidance on resumption of cruise ship operations

CLIA and its member lines welcome publication of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) guidance on resumption of cruise ship operations in the European Union. The EMSA guidance provides recommendations relating to the development of ship and port management plans, and the interaction between cruise operations and ports and terminals.

New CLIA video series addresses cruise questions

CLIA has launched a new video QA series for its travel agent members, addressing some of the most commonly asked questions about the cruise industry in Australia and New Zealand. The series, titled Ask Joel, sees CLIA Managing Director Australasia Joel Katz answering the questions being asked of the industry, in an effort to educate the community on the steps being taken by the association in response to COVID-19 and the work being done by cruise lines behind the scenes.

Job losses could reach 13,000 if cruise suspension continues into summer peak

The suspension of cruise operations is likely to cost Australia more than $1.4 billion in lost economic activity by mid-September and threaten the jobs of more than 4,800 people, according to analysis commissioned by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Australasia. Conducted by economic analysts and forecasters AEC Group, the analysis shows the shutdown has already resulted in an economic loss of almost $500 million to the end of May, which in the absence of the Australian Government s JobKeeper program would have cost almost 1,700 Australian jobs.

Dubrovnik receives boost for sustainable tourism measures

The City of Dubrovnik has received a positive ranking for its sustainable tourism efforts from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), providing a welcome endorsement for initiatives that have been supported by the international cruise industry. In its report on the Croatian city released yesterday, the GSTC gave Dubrovnik a high ranking of 70% after examining four pillars of destination sustainability.

New CLIA training to support Cruise Champions

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) is backing the champions of the cruise community with a new online course for travel agents, helping them to gain a greater understanding of the industry and help combat common misperceptions. Called Cruise Champion, the new course is an interactive program that takes travel agent members deeper into the workings of the global cruise sector and offers them the knowledge to become ambassadors for the industry.
