Support the return of local cruising in Australia
In response to the Australian Government's extension of the cruise suspension, with no plan for cruising’s future, CLIA is calling for genuine progress to break the cycle of government inaction which has meant Australia is being left behind while other countries rebuild their cruising and tourism economies.
Join our campaign to urge the government to finalise a plan for resumption for Australia’s cruise industry.
Australia is now the only major cruise destination in the world where governments have made no progress on plans for cruising’s revival.
No setting is immune from Covid-19. The difference, however, is that cruise ships are subject to stringent measures that include testing and vaccination requirements before boarding and detailed response plans to manage any suspected cases on board.
This isn’t true in most land-based settings, and it’s now clear the incidence of Covid-19 is far lower on cruise ships than it is on land.
It’s time governments recognised that cruising has gone above and beyond most other sectors during this pandemic, and ended the different treatment that hurts travel industry professionals so deeply.
Cruise has long lead times to get back up and running, so Governments need to sign-off on a way forward for local cruising – one that upholds safety while supporting an economic revival for the thousands of Australians who rely on cruise tourism and who deserve clarity about the future.
