Support the return of local cruising in Australia

In response to the Australian Government's extension of the cruise suspension, with no plan for cruising’s future, CLIA is calling for urgent progress to break the cycle of government inaction which has meant Australia is being left behind while other countries rebuild their cruising and tourism economies.

Join our campaign to urge the government to finalise a plan for resumption for Australia’s cruise industry.

Australia is now the only major cruise destination in the world where governments have made no progress on plans for cruising’s revival. Other countries have not only agreed on detailed plans to uphold safety on cruise ships, but have also resumed cruising and successfully carried more than a million passengers so far.

Cruise has long lead times to get back up and running, so now that Australian governments have agreed on the National Four-Phase Plan for reopening with specific vaccination targets in place, we need to ensure cruising can be part of this plan, Governments need to sign-off on a way forward for local cruising – one that upholds safety while supporting an economic revival for the thousands of Australians who rely on cruise tourism and who deserve clarity about the future.

Take ACTION and use our tool on this page to generate an email to your local Members of Parliament and key Ministers at State and Federal levels, including the Prime Minister and State Premiers.
We encourage you to personalise the email to explain how the ongoing cruise suspension is impacting you, your family, and your business or job. Simply edit the text with your own words. A personal story will help convey how much the suspension is affecting real people across Australia.
Cruise lines globally have committed to extensive new health protocols in response to COVID-19, including testing and vaccinations. With these measures in place, we see an opportunity for a carefully managed and phased resumption of cruising in Australia.
More than $5 billion has already been wiped from the Australian economy since cruising was suspended and over 18,000 jobs are at risk. Governments need to take urgent action to revive our industry and restore the benefits of cruise tourism to communities around the country.
