Senior New Zealand Government Ministers joined cruise industry representatives in Wellington this week as they work to create the conditions for a thriving cruise economy in New Zealand. Representatives from CLIA, the New Zealand Cruise Association (NZCA), Carnival Corporation, Royal Caribbean Group, and Heritage Expeditions last night joined a forum convened by New Zealand Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston, aimed at attracting more ships and fostering greater economic opportunities from cruise tourism.

Australians set new record for cruise holidays

The number of Australians taking holidays at sea has surged to record highs, reaching 1.45 million people in 2025, according to figures released today by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). The result is a 9.5% increase on the 1.32 million Australians who cruised in 2024 and overtakes the previous record of 1.35 million set in 2018.

Longstanding cruise line executive Gavin Smith has been inducted into the industry's Hall of Fame at the 23rd annual Cruise Industry Awards for Australasia, honouring his leadership in the development of the region's cruise sector over many decades. At a gala celebration in Sydney hosted by CLIA on Saturday, Mr Smith was announced as the 20th member of the Hall of Fame by Peter Little, the Chairman of CLIA in Australasia and Senior Vice President & Country Manager for Carnival Corporation.

CLIA Awards finalists revealed after record nominations

CLIA has announced the finalists for its 23rd Cruise Industry Awards for Australasia after a record level of nominations from across the region's travel agent community. A total of 83 finalists have been named from Australia and New Zealand and will be in the running to win one of 15 awards to be announced at a sold-out gala celebration in Sydney on 7 March, 2026.
