Industry and Government unite for New Zealand cruise focus

Cruise industry representatives have joined senior Government Ministers in Wellington for discussions on the future direction of cruise ship operations in New Zealand, setting the scene for longer-term collaboration on the development of international cruise tourism. Representatives from CLIA, the New Zealand Cruise Association and cruise lines joined round-table discussions convened by New Zealand Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston, aimed at creating a whole-of-government approach to fostering cruise visitation.

Cruise Month returns this October

CLIA has announced the return of its annual Cruise Month campaign this October, bringing its Australasian membership together to celebrate the approaching summer sailing season. Under the banner #LoveCruise, this year's campaign will bring a fresh cycle of social media activity, digital advertising, education opportunities and other promotional initiatives designed to create excitement around cruising and direct consumers to their local CLIA travel consultant.

New Zealand cruise fans are increasingly opting for fly-cruise holidays in other parts of the world, according to figures released today by CLIA. In its annual Source Market Report for New Zealand, CLIA has outlined data showing a decline in local cruising among New Zealanders in 2024, but a significant increase in cruising in long-haul destinations.

Australian cruise passenger numbers continue to rise

Australia's passion for cruising has continued to grow, with new annual figures showing another strong increase in the number of Australians taking holidays at sea. A report released CLIA shows the number of Australians who took an ocean cruise during 2024 reached 1.32 million, a 5.9% increase on the previous year.

CLIA welcomes HX Expeditions

Expedition cruise line HX Expeditions has partnered with CLIA to support its presence in the Australian and New Zealand markets, joining as a Regional Expedition/Ocean Cruise Line member in Australasia. The partnership brings HX into CLIA's wider Australasian cruise community, made up of cruise lines from around the world as well as travel agents, ports, destinations, suppliers and other industry stakeholders.

Cruise360 Australasia to return to Sydney in 2026

The Southern Hemisphere's biggest annual cruise industry conference will return to Sydney next year, with dates now confirmed for Cruise360 Australasia on 17-18 September 2026.
