Australian cruise tourism surges to record A$8.43 billion economic value

The value of cruise tourism in Australia has surged to a record high, generating A$8.43 billion for the national economy during 2023-24 while supporting more than 26,000 jobs around the country. An economic impact assessment jointly commissioned by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and the Australian Cruise Association (ACA) shows a thriving cruise economy in Australia, driven by significant increases in passenger spending and cruise line outlays.

Nominations open for 22nd Annual CLIA Awards

The countdown to the cruise industry's biggest night of celebration has begun, with CLIA today opening nominations for its 22nd Annual Cruise Industry Awards. The awards will help recognise the pivotal role Australian and New Zealand travel agents have played in achieving record levels of cruise travel internationally, with 15 categories to be judged.

Figures for 2023 show the number of Australians who took an ocean cruise during the calendar year reached 1.25 million, slightly above the 1.24 million who sailed in 2019.
